A borderless pool has water overflowing around the entire perimeter. The water is usually captured in a gutter and then sent to a tank. The tank is called a surge tank. A pump moves the water from the tank back to the pool.

The effect is created by having a low wall that the water can flow over at the side, also known as a “weir”. A catch basin is built at the bottom of the weir to catch the water that flows over it and recycle back into the pool.
